Berwang, a municipality in Tyrol, Austria, has 564 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) and is located in the Reutte district. It consists of eight villages, including Berwang, Bichlbächle, and Rinnen. The village lies on the slope of the Berwanger valley and connects to the Rotlechtal. It is a well-known winter ski resort and a summer destination for hiking and mountain biking. The name Berwang means "bear meadow," and the area was first settled by Imst before coming under Tyrolean jurisdiction in 1266. Tourism has transformed the formerly poor agricultural community, with the first ski lift opening in 1949. Key landmarks include the parish church of St. James the Elder (dating to 1430), the Pension Bergheim (a restored 1932 architectural work), and several chapels. The village is accessible via the Berwang-Namloser Straße and is near the Bichlbach-Berwang station on the Außerfernbahn railway.
